THE UNDERTAKER'S PATCH
Deciding to start a new club was relatively
easy, however a club needs a name
and a patch
and that's not an
easy task.
All the guys were racking their brains trying to come up with something
that
sounded edgy and credible without sounding ridiculous, and also one that
wasn't
taken by another bike club.
I trawled the web relentlessly, searching everything from mythical serpants
to snakes to anything with the word 'black' in the description and came up
with a few ideas when my son said "what about Undertakers"? To be
honest I dismissed the idea at first, it sounded very 70's and old school.
But after a while it sounded quite cool. I suggested it to Blackneck and
his
first thoughts had been the same as mine, but as with me it quickly grew on
him too. After all 70's retro has done a full circle and seems to be the
way
to go! We put this in the 'hat' with the other options and I went about
trying
to come up with images to accompany them. I've always loved the print by
the
Dutch artist, M.C. Escher ot the smoking skull in the top hat and I thought
it went along with the Undertaker theme,
But other options were toyed with as well , here are the final four

All of these were put to the 'soon to be' club members and names and images were swapped about a little until a final one was decided on. It only took me a couple of hours to do the final sketch and my work was done right? WRONG! In my total naivity I thought the sketch could be just sent off to whoever was enlisted to make the patch and they would do the rest. But this was just a sketch. A bolder version was required with solid colours, outlines etc. This could only be done on the pc and took bloody hours until finally it was ready to be sent to the patch folk ..
Wrong again! Although everyone was happy with the patch it was suggested that instead of your 'run of the mill' square patch it might look better done in silhouette. So it was back to the pc to be altered again Was I stressed? No .Ive always loved drawing an that and I knew then it would be ready to be sent to the patch folk
Wrong again ..although everyone was happy with the patch as a silhouette it was suggested that it may look better with a single bottom 'rocker', So once again I retired to the pc for my final hours on this esculating project. Was I stressed? NO! cos I knew after this it would be ready to be sent to the patch folk .... wouldn.t it?
Bloody wrong once again! Although everyone
was happy with the patch as a silhouette AND single rocker it was suggested
that a TOP rocker was added
.but not a plain and 'easy' top rocker
oh no! what was required
.and I quote
'kind of a rocker
..something
'scrolley'....kind of thing
.
So it was back to the friggin pc AGAIN for 12 hours tryin combinations of
'scrolley sort of thingys! Was I getting stressed? Yes I F*****G was
.
sick
of the sight of the stupid thing now!
Here are the final scrolley type kind of things
But at least now one
can be chosen and sent to the bloody PATCH folk!!!
Was I wrong again?..........NO
.yippeeeeeeeeee.
It was at last finished! And I must admit
I'm glad it has for I had started talking to the skull which I had named
'Sam'
And had begun to apologise to him when I had to once again 'alter' him in
some way
.informing him that' it wouldn't take long' and 'this will
probably
be the last time'
Thankfully it WAS the last time and Sam was
sent
to the patch folk to be put onto a bonefido patch.
Barry T and Barry G from the club were in charge of ordering from Fitwell
Patches, and after days of having bits altered
.which they obligingly
did so.....(probably due to the fact of having 2 Barrys in 'stereo'
insisting
on top quality) the patch is now completed. Arthur 'hitman' and Barry T.
had
a ride over earlier today to show me the first one completed. Project
'patch'
now finished
..
It has made me wonder though if I were to be paid for my time?..........
Total sketching

£90.00
Time on pc
.£300.00
Anti stress pills

Seeing final patch
